Spring Break

Last week the girls were out of school for spring break, so after Hayden's big bash, we high-tailed it to the beach!

Ocean City baby!

We got in Monday evening and decided to walk the boardwalk. Not a whole lot was open, because it was still early in the season. No matter, the Millers make their own fun!

We stopped at the huge tire in front of Ripley's Museum.

Hayden shot off Bailee's legs with a cannon....ouch!

Tuesday we attempted the beach, but it was too cold. We decided to ride our bikes down the boardwalk instead.

Wednesday we hung out at the pool and went mini golfing.

Thursday we went to Assateague Island to ride bikes and check out the wild ponies.

Can you spot the wildlife in this picture?
It's the beast on the left. Ha Ha!

The one and only picture of mom from the trip!

Riding bikes is exhausting!

Friday morning our hotel hosted an Easter egg hunt.

This was Hayden's first hunt that he really understood what was going on and what he needed to do.

Spring break was a blast! Too bad it only comes around once a year.

Yee Haw!

On Sunday, we finally had Hayden's birthday bash. It was cowboy themed and I went all out. (Whew!) Here are some pictures of the decor.

Our welcome sign to the party. I outlined the sign and Bailee filled in the cow spots.

Candy buffet

Close up of the banner that I made to go above the candy table.

I made the tablecloth and the garland hanging in front of it.

I made loot bags to hold everyone's candy.

This is a truck that Hayden has had since he was born. I filled it with bullseyes for the candy buffet. I also had snake eggs (whopper eggs), Hershey's gold nuggets, licorice lasso's, Cow Tales, cow patties (Reese's peanut butter cups), cowboy kisses (Hershey's kisses), prairie peanuts, Jolly Ranchers and miners mints.

AND.....

the crowning glory of the entire party!!!

The cowboy birthday cake!!

How amazing is that cake? I did it with the help of my BFF Laura. I could not have done it without her. Bailee was also a big help. She painted the number 2 that sat on top of the cake. It was a team effort, but it paid off. Hayden's cake was unbelievable!

Here's a close up of the belt buckle that Laura made. She piped the outline and his name by hand. No cutting corners here!

I'll do another post tomorrow and show pictures of the actual party. Come back and check it all out!

Cherry Blossom Festival

Despite the overcast and chilly weather on Saturday, we decided to head into D.C. to check out the Cherry Blossom Festival. In 1912, the mayor of Tokyo gave the city of Washington D.C. a gift of Japanese cherry trees. He did this in an effort to enhance the friendship between the United States and Japan. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving! These trees have continued to bloom bright pink for the past 99 years.

The festival is spread out over 2 weeks, with the culmination of a parade on the last day. Hundreds of thousands of people come from all over the place to take in a glimpse of these gorgeous trees. In order to avoid some of those thousands, we decided to park in Bethesda (at Jake's office) and ride the metro into D.C. Hayden has been digging trains lately, so he had a blast riding the metro.

Here are a couple of shots of the parade.

After the parade, we walked down to the tidal basin to enjoy the trees....and the ducks.

And to finish the day off, we had to stop at the now famous Georgetown Cupcake (aka: DC Cupcakes from TLC). Jake and I found this shop over a year ago before they were famous and had lines out the door. Luckily fame hasn't changed the taste, because they are fantastic!
